Pomodoro Timer
Work in focused 25 minute sessions with short breaks, then take a longer break after your last session.
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method created by Francesco Cirillo. You work in short, focused sessions, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by five minute breaks. After four sessions you take a longer break. It is named after the tomato shaped kitchen timer Cirillo first used.
How to use this Pomodoro timer
- Choose a single task to work on.
- Check the times. The defaults are 25 minutes focus, 5 minutes short break, 15 minutes long break and 4 sessions.
- Press Start. You will hear a beep whenever the phase changes.
- Work until the beep, rest properly during breaks, and repeat until the timer says All done.
Tips for better focus sessions
- Write down the one task you will tackle before you start.
- Silence notifications and keep your phone out of reach.
- Step away from your screen during breaks.
- If you finish early, use the time to review rather than starting something new.
